Welcome to the Alamo Heroes website! Come in and view our site to learn the many inspiring details of the historic events surrounding the Alamo, its heroes and the great state of Texas. Originally built in 1718 as Mission San Antonio de Valero in what would become San Antonio, Texas, the Alamo, "The Cradle of Texas Liberty," was the first of the area's five Spanish missions. It was initially built on three acres of land and had stone walls around it ten to twelve feet high such as surround various Spanish monasteries still found today in many Mexican cities such as Guadalajara or Monterrey. The Alamo was built as a vocational school to educate the Indians in farming and agricultural skills like cattle raising, weaving, carpentry and stone masonry. |
